Garrigues ranks first among EU firms according to GreenPrint
RSGI’s research analyzes the sustainability strategy, commitments and reporting of the 180 largest law firms by revenue worldwide.
Garrigues leads the EU’s legal industry thanks to its sustainability strategy and commitments and is the only Spanish firm and the top-ranking EU firm present in the GreenPrint 2023 report by the RSGI Limited group, a think tank known for its partnership with the Financial Times in the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards. The aim of the RSGI’s research, conducted on a pro bono basis, is to rate the level of maturity in sustainability of the 180 largest firms by revenue worldwide, to identify best practices in strategy, targets and ESG reporting, and to promote the role of firms as agents of sustainable change.
Of all the firms studied, only twenty-two made it into the final ranking. By region, the UK stands out with sixteen firms included in the ranking, followed by the US with three, the EU with two (Spain and the Netherlands), and Australia with one. Garrigues, the only Spanish representative and the first from the EU, ranked in the third level (3-star law firm) with 14 points out of a possible 20. 82% of the firms studied scored under 10 points.
In preparing the report, RSGI has taken into account publicly available information based on ten indicators that analyze, among other factors, the firms’ numerical metrics and targets for reducing CO2 emissions, the inclusion of UNSDG in their strategy, “SMART” targets for improving diversity, time devoted to pro bono projects, the involvement of chief officers, and the executive leadership of sustainability functions and ESG committees within the firms.
