New partners in charge for Catalonia, Aragón and the Balearic Islands
They replace Fernando Rey, who headed that region since 1998
Garrigues has appointed Miriam Barrera and Óscar de Santiago as the new joint partners in charge for Catalonia, Aragón and the Balearic Islands. They replace Fernando Rey, who headed that region since 1998.
All three have spent most of their professional career at Garrigues. Miriam Barrera is a partner of the Tax Department and is the head of the tax practice in the financial sector, as well as of the Accounting Law practice in the Barcelona office. With a degree in law from Universidad de Barcelona, she is an expert in the tax treatment of M&A deals, taxation under the consolidated tax regime and in Accounting Law., among other areas. She provides recurring tax advice on the main M&A and internal restructuring transactions performed by companies. She is also a member, representing the Garrigues Foundation, of the Board of Trustees and Governing Board of Fundació IDEC, Barcelona School of Management.
Óscar de Santiago heads Garrigues’ Corporate/Commercial Law Department in Barcelona. He specializes in Real Estate Law, both in its most traditional sense as well as its financial dimension. He provides advice to Spanish and foreign clients on the acquisition, management and availability of real estate assets. He has a degree in law from Universidad de Barcelona, a Postgraduate in Commercial and Common Law from University of Essex (United Kingdom) and a Master’s Degree in Property and Financial Law from Universidad de Barcelona. He currently coordinates and is lecturer of the real estate module of the Specialist Master’s Degree in International Business Law at Esade, and was an associate lecturer at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
Fernando Rey, partner in charge of Catalonia, Aragón and the Balearic Islands since 1998, he specializes in Tax and Accounting Law and frequently participates in M&A transactions. He has a Degree in law from Universidad Central de Barcelona, and Senior Business Management Program (PADE) from IESE. He has been an assistant lecturer at ESADE (Universidad Ramón Llull) since 1994, and is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences organized by the firm and various specialist centers. He is also co-author of several books and manuals.
