Spain: New steps in the process for approval of the Sustainable Mobility Bill

The goal is to reduce greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions in transport.

Consideration and approval of the Sustainable Mobility Bill is expected take place in 2023. The bill has been sent to parliament by the Council of Ministers, thereby fulfilling the commitments acquired in this respect with the European Commission in the context of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Specifically in reform 2 included in Component 1, namely, a shake-up plan for safe and connected sustainable mobility in urban and metropolitan environments.

Moreover, the bill is designed to implement another set of measures set out in the Strategy for Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility 2030. One of its main targets is to contribute to achieving the reduction targets for greenhouse gases, and pollutant emissions in transport, in line with the international agreements assumed by Spain to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals set in the UN’s Agenda 2030 and the Paris COP21 targets, and also in line with European strategies, such as the European Green Deal, the European Commission’s Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy and the package of measures for green and efficient mobility.
