Experience
Gonzalo Rivera is a Partner in Garrigues’ Corporate/Commercial Department and has more than 19 years’ experience. He has worked for the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg (in 2000), as well as a stint at the New York offices of Latham & Watkins LLP from 2005 to 2006.
Gonzalo specializes mainly in the areas of banking and finance and regularly advises on all kinds of financing and refinancing transactions, of purchase and sale of credit and asset portfolios, as well as on financial derivatives, particularly in transactions where the complexity of the structure or the involvement of various jurisdictions requires expert advice.
His clients are usually financial institutions, private equity funds, public law entities and listed companies, although he also advises companies and groups of companies which, while unlisted, have significant size and weighting.
In addition to financial advice, Gonzalo Rivera also regularly participates in and advises clients on M&A and corporate restructuring transactions, particularly in cases where there is a financial element.
Gonzalo Rivera has been singled out as a noteworthy, recommended lawyer by Chambers Global and Best Lawyers International in the banking and finance categories.

Co-author of the chapters on Spain in “The Year in Review” published by the Section of International Law and Practice of the American Bar Association in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
He also participates and collaborates in talks and lectures by the CFA’s International Asset-Based Lending Workshop, contributing his experience and views in relation to the transactions he participates in.
