Isabel Pérez-Cabrero is a principal associate in the Industrial and Intellectual Property Department at Garrigues, where she practices in the areas of patents, trademarks, industrial designs, advertising and unfair competition, with a particular focus on plant varieties. She deals with both litigation and contractual aspects in defence of the aforementioned rights, and has extensive experience in advising holders of plant varieties, whose defence she has carried out before the Board of Appeal of the Community Plant Variety Office, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the General Court of the European Union. Isabel is a regular contributor to the Magister Lvcentinvs promoted by the University of Alicante and is a lecturer on the Master's Degree in Access to the Legal Profession offered by the European University of Valencia. She is also the author of several articles and chapters in Spanish publications on substantive aspects of intellectual property.
Experience
Isabel Pérez-Cabrero has been a Principal Associate in the Intellectual Property Department at Garrigues since 2017, having joined the firm in 2009, after working at Baker & McKenzie and Gomez-Acebo y Pombo. In her professional activity she has participated in relevant matters, including:
- Contractual advice to well-known companies in the agricultural sector, holders or licensees of protected varieties, in relation to complex agreements for the experimentation and exploitation of their varieties.
- Litigation related to infringement of plant variety rights, both of propagating and harvested plant material before different national courts, such as the Community Plant Variety Office, the Board of Appeal of the Community Plant Variety Office, the General Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
- Litigation concerning patents, trademarks and registered and unregistered industrial designs before various national courts and before the Trademark and Design Court of the European Union.
- Strategic advice on the feasibility of protecting intangible assets and non-infringing exploitation of other people's industrial property rights, as well as on the review of rights portfolios.
The sectors of her experience include luxury and fashion, cosmetics, furniture, food and ceramics.
Academic background
Master in Intellectual and Industrial Property and Information Society (Magister Lvcentinvs) taught by the University of Alicante in collaboration with EUIPO and WIPO.
Law Degree from the University of Murcia.
Teaching activity
Isabel Pérez-Cabrero is a regular speaker at the Magister Lvcentinvs promoted by the University of Alicante, and has been a lecturer, since its foundation, on the Master's Degree in Access to the Legal Profession at the European University of Valencia. She has also taught Industrial and Intellectual Property on the Master's Degree in Business Law at the Garrigues Study Centre.
