José Manuel Herrero has been a partner in the Litigation & Arbitration Department until 2021, whereupon he became of Counsel. He has extensive experience in managing litigation, both before the courts and arbitration institutions, with a special focus on civil law disputes (obligations and contracts, and successions) and commercial/corporate law disputes (challenges to corporate resolutions, directors’ liability and unfair competition). He also specializes in wealth planning and succession advice. He holds a Law Degree from Universidad de Valencia and is a lecturer on Civil Law at Universidad Comillas ICADE, Madrid.
Experience
He has pursued his professional career principally at Garrigues: he joined in 1997; was named partner in 2007; and in 2021 became of Counsel.
He has a wealth of experience in managing litigation, both before the ordinary Spanish courts and in Spanish and international arbitration proceedings conducted by renowned institutions, with a special focus on civil and corporate/commercial law matters: obligations and contracts, noncontractual liability, corporate law affairs (actions for liability, challenges to corporate resolutions, side agreements), unfair competition and successions.
He has defended the interests of the main financial institutions, telecommunications companies, private equity firms, construction companies and developers in Spain. He has also advised on the organization and regulation of important family businesses.
He provides advice on succession planning for high net worth individuals.
He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
