Karen Werner is the responsible partner in charge of the dispute resolution area at Garrigues office in Chile. With over 15 years of experience, her practice focuses on high complexity conflict resolution, both in litigation and domestic and international arbitration. She has extensive experience in disputes in various industries, including construction, telecommunications, mining, financial industry, real estate, among others. She has also had significant experience in corporate and shareholder disputes.
She has relevant experience in insolvency and restructuring proceedings.
Experience
In her professional experience, Karen Werner has worked as a litigator in prestigious Chilean and international law firms.
In 2009, she joined Cariola, Diez & Pérez Cotapos' litigation and arbitration team as an associate.
In 2013, she joined Gutiérrez, Waugh, Jimeno & Asenjo, a boutique firm specialized in dispute resolution, as a senior associate.
After completing her master's studies at Columbia where she obtained an LLM degree, she joined Covington & Burling's international arbitration team in New York as an international associate.
In 2019, she joined Bofill, Mir & Alvarez Jana as a partner in charge of the litigation area, which later split to form a new boutique firm, Jana & Gil Dispute Resolution, where Karen Werner joined as a founding partner and managing partner.
Academic background
Karen Werner has a law degree from Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
She also holds an LLM degree from Columbia University in New York, where she graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
