Mónica is a partner at Garrigues IP, where she has worked since 2001. She is specialized in the area of technical inventions and their industrial and intellectual property rights, related to technical areas such as: pharmacy, biotechnology, chemistry, food or agribusiness. She deals with both general advice on the protection and management of patent rights, utility models, etc., both nationally and internationally, as well as technical strategic advice on processes of development and exploitation of technical inventions. The adequate protection of R+D results, creation of efficient industrial property portfolios as well as opinions related to the exploitation of innovation, among others, opinions of freedom to operate, infringement or patent validity count among her recurring advice to clients. She has a degree in biochemistry from the UPV and is accredited as an industrial property agent. She collaborates as a speaker in training courses and dissemination of industrial property. In addition to Spanish and English, she is fluent in German.
Experience
Mónica Arizti is the partner responsible for the technical area of Garrigues IP, Garrigues' Industrial Property Agency, where she has pursued her professional career since 2001, after working at the European Patent Office in Munich, where she worked as an examiner of European patents for more than seven years. She specializes in strategic technical advice on industrial property matters to companies, both startups and larger corporations with national and international interests as well as public or private research institutions.
Due to her academic background as a Bachelor of Science, specializing in Biochemistry, and her previous experience as a patent examiner and member of opposition divisions in the European Office, she has specialized in strategic advice and project management in technical areas related to pharmacy, chemistry, biotechnology, food and agribusiness.
Its main activity focuses on the creation of efficient portfolios of industrial and intellectual property both nationally and internationally that allow to optimize the advantages that these rights provide as well as to recover the investments made in IP. She is specialized in areas related to, among orthers, regenerative medicine, patents related to new therapeutic applications, genomic and proteomic diagnostic methods, cancer treatments; in vitro fertilization.
She is also a recurring advisor in the evaluation of industrial property rights associated with technology of transfer processes, as well as in due dligence, freedom to operate and technical audits.
He participates as technical support of the IP department of the firm in contractual matters, legal opinions and judicial proceedings related to infringement and nullity of patent rights, either making party reports or acting as a technical expert in such procedures.
He is also a regular speaker at seminars and conferences of the Firm and various centers specialized in the dissemination of topics related to Industrial Property.
Academic background
Degree in Science, specialization in biochemistry from the University of the Basque Country (UPV) and Industrial Property Agent.
