Roberto has more than 19 years’ experience in customs strategy, international trade and tax litigation, legal advisory services, team management and supervision of outside counsel.
He has advised companies in connection with their international trade transactions, customs operations, authorized economic operator (AEO) status and export control measures, using his extensive experience in the regulatory framework for the manufacturing export industry (IMMEX), free trade agreements and certificates of origin, customs valuations, tariff classification, VAT and non-tariff measures that have an impact on international trade facilitation.
Experience
Roberto Serralde is a partner in the Tax practice. He has extensive experience in tax advisory services and dispute resolution in key industrial sectors such as the automotive, chemical, electricity, manufacturing and health industries. His expertise encompasses complex cases related to tax audits, corporate restructuring processes and the implementation of tax strategies for multinationals.
Over his career, he has advised and represented leading companies in the auto parts industry, successfully defending their interests in trade compliance audits by the Mexican Tax Administration Service (SAT), leading to a reduction in a 1.6 billion dollar tax contingency. Added to this, he headed a project for the establishment and relocation of operations for a company in the electricity industry in Mexico, contributing significantly to optimizing its regional supply chain.
His experience also includes defending a company in the chemical industry in NAFTA origin audits, and representing an automotive group in lawsuits over inventory audits, securing a reduction to a 200 million dollar tax contingency.
Robert has also participated in spin-off and restructuring processes in a varied range of industries including auto parts, electronics, health and chemicals, ensuring that restructuring processes are tax efficient and comply with the local and international legislation.
He provides specialized tax optimization advisory services in manufacturing transactions and the establishment of new industrial operations in Mexico, supporting companies in their growth and expansion in the country.
He is fluent in Spanish and English.
