Silvestre Arana is the head of the Energy practice area and the German Desk at Garrigues, where he has pursued his professional career since 2001, following a stint at COMPAÑÍA ESPAÑOLA DE PETRÓLEOS, S.A. (CEPSA), as Head of the International Legal Department and KLESCH & COMPANY LIMITED (London) as in-house counsel.
He specializes in the areas of M&A, project finance, joint venture agreements and commercial contracts, such as, without limitation: turnkey construction contracts, operation and maintenance agreements, PPA’s, crude oil offtake agreement, petroleum product supply and sale and purchase agreements, hydrocarbon production sharing agreements, transportation contracts, regasification agreements, storage contracts, gas take-or-pay agreements, etc.
He has a wealth of expertise in energy law and the energy practice area, taking in everything from the electricity sector (generation, transport, distribution and trading), renewable energies, the hydrocarbon sector (up, mid and downstream oil & gas). He has also garnered experience in maritime law, above all in the field of oil, prodcuts and LNG transportation.

- Master’s Degree in Maritime Business and Law – ICADE (Madrid).
- LLM Master in Maritime Law and Affairs, University of Wales College of Cardiff.
Teaching activity
As far as teaching is concerned, he has lectured on the Energy Law Master’s Program at both the Club Español de la Energía and the Instituto de Empresa and the Master’s Degree in Maritime Business and Law at ICADE. He has contributed to a range of energy law-related courses organized by IIR and IFAES.
