New Garrigues Sustainability Report 2023

Spain -

Just a week ago we celebrated the 22nd anniversary of our accession to the Global Compact. On this noteworthy date, we are presenting the 2023 Garrigues Sustainability Report on the firm’s policies, initiatives, parameters and goals in environmental, social and governance matters relating to the year ended December 2023.

The report retains the structure it had the previous year and includes the non-financial information statement of the Garrigues Group, using the GRI standards as a reference for presenting the key indicators of non-financial results. In addition, it is verified by an independent third party.

As a new feature, it includes Garrigues’ 2023-2025 Sustainability Plan, our road map to help us address environmental, social and governance concerns through specific lines of action and objectives, and meet our goal of fostering business development in a fairer, more ethical, responsible and sustainable society. The plan contains 12 lines of action based on 32 environmental, social and governance objectives.

Our sustainability commitments

The new report details the progress made, commitments given, projects implemented and challenges faced by Garrigues in terms of sustainability over the course of 2023. On the social front, the report highlights the new steps taken to ensure equality and foster innovation, as well as the commitment to training our professionals in digital skills and ESG.

In the environmental field, we continue to achieve greater energy efficiency and emissions reductions in order to ensure that our business model is environmentally responsible. Garrigues’ achievements in reducing its gross emissions in recent years has been recognized with the firm’s inclusion, for the third year in a row, in the Financial Times-Statista Europe’s Climate Leaders ranking. Not only did we achieve net-zero emissions for scopes 1 and 2, in 2023 our calculated scope 3 emissions were also carbon neutral.

And, in the governance area, the report describes the internal policies that have been issued in recent months (such as the policy on generative AI), those which have been updated (policy on quality, occupational risk prevention, the environment and CSR) and the creation of the new Internal Reporting Channel.

All of our ESG initiatives fall within Garrigues’ six major commitments to its main stakeholders: to ethics and good governance; to clients and business development; to our people and diversity of talent; to pro bono work and community outreach; to education and research; and to the environment and climate action.
