Experience
Mario is a partner in the Finance and Banking Law practices of Garrigues’ Mexico City office. Born in Mexico City and admitted to practice law in Mexico in 1998, he became a partner of Garrigues in September 2016. Before joining Garrigues, he was a partner at Ritch, Mueller, Heather y Nicolau, S.C., where he worked for more than 10 years.
Mario has experience in international banking and financing transactions, including secured and unsecured loans, structured finance, project finance and infrastructure projects, M&A, and equity investments.
He has represented Mexican and foreign banks and multilaterals, including IFC, IDB, OPIC and DEG, in several types of transactions, including syndicated loans, structured finance transactions, equity investments, granting of partial credit guarantees and equity and bond issuances in the capital markets in Mexico and the United States. He has also advised private equity funds and other foreign and domestic investors in M&A transactions.
Between March 2006 and December 2008, he was Counsel to the International Finance Corporation (a member of the World Bank) at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., representing IFC in several financing deals and equity investments in financial institutions, including microfinance institutions, and companies in several industries, such as infrastructure, hotels and carbon credits, in Nigeria, China, Turkey, Peru, Honduras, Argentina and Mexico, among other countries.
