End of the extraordinary measures implemented in the workplace due to COVID-19

The order declares the end of health crisis and the termination of the extraordinary measures such as those related to the minimum interpersonal safety distance of 1.5 meters between workers or the promotion of teleworking, among others.

Order SND/726/2023, of July 4, 2023, publishing the Decision of the Council of Ministers of July 4, 2023, declaring the end of the COVID-19 health crisis, establishes the termination of the measures set out in chapters II, III, IV, V (except those in article 27), VI and VII and in additional provision five of Law 2/2021, of March 29, 2021, on urgent prevention, containment and coordination measures to address the COVID-19 health crisis, and, in particular, in connection with the mandatory use of face masks.

Specifically, in the area of employment, the termination of the following obligations related to the workplace are worth noting:

  • The implementation of ventilation, clearing and disinfection procedures at workplaces.
  • To make soap and water, or alcohol-based hand gel or disinfectants available to workers.
  • The adoption  of working conditions (including organizing work stations, shift work and the use of common areas) to ensure a minimum physical distance of 1.5 meters between workers. 
  • The adoption of measures to avoid a mass coincidence of people at workplaces during expected peak times.
  • The adoption of measures for the phased return to on-site work positions and the increased use of teleworking arrangements wherever possible in view of the nature of the work.

This order will come into force on July 5, 2023.
