IBA issues updated Investment Treaty Arbitration Report

The Arbitration Subcommittee on Investment Treaty Arbitration of the International Bar Association (IBA) has issued a report on “Consistency, efficiency and transparency in Investment Treaty Arbitration”. This report offers a snapshot of the state of investment arbitration in recent years, and an estimation for 2019, which is likely to be one of the most formative years for the field.

GAR and CIArb launch updated arbitration seat index

The Global Arbitration Review (GAR) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) have recently jointly launched the new GAR-CIArb Seat Index.

The index aims to provide one-page summaries of the favourableness of individual arbitral seats assessed against a range of standard criteria. In its first version it covers six frequently used and well-established jurisdictions for arbitration: Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, Singapore and Switzerland (including Geneva and Zurich).The summaries of those seats and concise lists can be found at  https://globalarbitrationreview.com/edition/1001277/gar-ciarb-seat-index

  • Carlos de los Santos (Madrid) spoke at the breakfast seminar hosted by BDO in Madrid (Hotel Hesperia) on Experts: cross-examination from three perspetives on 11 December 2018
  • Garrigues Chile team spoke at YAF ICC Chile event: partner Monica van der Schraft and Principal Associate Cristóbal Sarralde (Chile office) spoke on the Expedited ICC Proceedings at the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum (YAF) in Santiago on 23 November 2018, in an event hosted by the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the Commerce Chamber of Santiago de Chile.
  • Joe Tirado (London) spoke on Third Party Funding at the IV ICC-CIAMEN Spanish Arbitration Forum in Madrid on 27 November 2018. Joe also spoke on Ethics in International Investment Arbitration at the Fifth International Conference for a Euro-Mediterranean Community of International Arbitration at an event joint organized by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Madrid Court of Arbitration (MCA) and the Ministry of Justice of Spain in Madrid on 19 November 2018.
