Portugal: Exeptional aid for family is extended for the period between 27 and 31 December, 2021

Decree-Law no. 119-B/2021, of December 23 was published in the Official Gazette, extending the granting period of the exceptional aid for family due to the suspension of in-person curricular and non-curricular activities to the period between 27 and 31 December 2021.
With this extension, the exceptional aid for family shall now be granted from 27 to 31 December 2021, as well as from 2 to 9 January 2022.
As such, employees who are absent from work due to immediate and necessary assistance to a child under the age of 12, or with a disability or chronical illness regardless of their age, between 27 and 31 December 2021, are now eligible to receive the exceptional aid for family due to the suspension of the following activities:
- Early childhood support centres and kindergartens, family kindergartens and nannies, social support undertaken in activity centres for the seeking of inclusion and Free Time Activities;
- Curricular and non-curricular activities in private special needs schools;
- Educative, curricular and non-curricular including of entertainment and support to family and pre-school, primary, and lower secondary education establishments whose operation was scheduled for said period.
Between 27 and 31 December, 2021, as well as between 2 and 9 January, 2022, the amount of the exceptional aid for family may reach 100% of the employee’s base salary (with the maximum limit of up to 3 minimum monthly wages) if the parents receive this aid in an alternate fashion:
- In periods equal to or over four days and lesser than seven days, if each parent receives the aid in at least two of those days;
- In periods of lesser than four days, if one of the parents receives the aid in at least two of those days and the other receives it in at least one of those days.
