Portugal: Postponement of the deadline for the application of the contribution on plastic packaging to aluminum packaging
The application of the single-use plastic packaging contribution to aluminum or multi-material packaging with aluminum was extended from 1 September 2023 to 1 January 2024, according to the Ministerial Order no. 270/2023, of August 29.
Please remind that this contribution was implemented by Order no. 331-E/2021, of 31 December, payable at 0.30 EUR for each plastic container purchased in take-away, drive-in or home-delivery meals, subsequently amended by Order no. 312-C/2022, of 30 December, which excluded its application, for example, to packaging for beverages and extended its application to aluminum or multi-material packaging with aluminum from 1 January to 1 September 2023.
This contribution results from the concern at European level to improve resource efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of packaging waste in order to encourage the use of reusable packaging and promote a circular economy.
