Pedro García Morales is a partner in the Commercial Department of Garrigues, in the Santiago de Chile office, where he practices in the areas of banking and finance law, capital markets, insolvency and restructuring, and infrastructure and energy projects. He is also an arbitrator of the arbitration body of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Santiago de Chile. He has been consistently recognized in the top bands of Chambers & Partners, IFLR 1000 and Legal 500, among other publications, and many of the transactions on which he has advised have won awards from prestigious international publications. He received his law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an LLM from Duke University (USA). He has been a professor of Commercial and Economic Law at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile since 1993 and has also taught in the LLM programs of his University and Universidad de Los Andes, and undergraduate programs at Universidad de Los Andes and Universidad Finis Terrae.
Experience
Pedro García has substantial experience in banking and finance, capital markets, insolvency and restructuring and projects. He has advised the bookrunners in several sovereign issuances by the Republic of Chile and prime Chilean issuers either in the international markets or locally such as Colbún, Falabella, Banco Santander-Chile, Banco de Chile, Scotiabank Chile, Codelco, ENAP, EFE, ENEL Chile and AES Gener. He has also advised in large infrastructure projects such as the financing of the Chacao Bridge, linking the Chiloé Island with continental Chile, a water desalination plant for BHP and another for Codelco. In energy, he has advised both in capital markets transactions and financing for the largest transmission lines in Chile, and multi jurisdiction financings to Celeo Redes, ISA Interchile; Generadora Metropolitana (EDF/AME) and Enfragen. In acquisition finance he has participated in the acquisition of Gasmar by Arroyo, Nike de Chile by an Ecuatorean group, and Odata by Aligned. In insolvency and restructuring he has participated in the reorganization agreements of Latam Airlines La Polar and La Araucana, and in restructuring transactions for most of the salmon producers in Chile, SMU (a supermarket chain), Agrícola Ariztía and the Saieh Group.lation to the obtaining of the permits required in order to open up an agency in Chile.
Pedro is a lecturer in Economic and Commercial Law at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he teaches various subjects, and in Corporate Financing on the Master's Degree in Law course at the Universidad de Los Andes in Santiago de Chile.
He is a member of the Chilean Bar Association.
