Garrigues collaborates from Mexico and Chile with the Climate Policy Monitor launched by Oxford University
Oxford University has just presented the Climate Policy Monitor, an exhaustive analysis of the alignment of economic rules with climate goals, in which Garrigues has participated by evaluating the regulatory frameworks of Mexico and Chile in three strategic areas.
The University of Oxford has launched the Climate Policy Monitor, an innovative study that offers a detailed view of how the economic rules of the main global economies are aligning with climate goals. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Net Zero Regulation and 48 leading law firms around the world, seeks to evaluate periodically, the ambition, comprehensiveness, and stringency of climate regulations and become the benchmark public tool to monitor sustainability policies.
Oxford has counted on Garrigues for the analysis of the Mexico and Chile jurisdictions, focusing its contribution on three key areas: the disclosure of information related to climate sustainability policies and measures, the implementation of sustainability-related measures and policies in the context of public procurement and transition planning towards sustainable policies. This approach means that progress and areas for improvement in the two countries can be identified, offering a solid base for future development in their regulatory frameworks.
The monitor, published in the context of COP29 which is now being held in Baku (Azerbaijan), compiles over 250 data points to reflect the trends and challenges in climate regulations. In its first edition, the report highlights the increasing growth in regulations among the leading economies, although it acknowledges that there are still big gaps in some jurisdictions.
The Climate Policy Monitor will be regularly updated and will be expanded to further jurisdictions next year, reaffirming its commitment to more ambitious and comprehensive climate regulations worldwide.
